Shirgaon, Sangli

Shirgaon ("Shirgaav" in the Marathi language) is a small village in the Walwa subdivision of the Sangli District, Maharashtra state, India.
It is located 32 km west of Sangli and 320 km from Mumbai.
Agriculture is one of the main sources of income, with the main cultivated crop being sugar cane, followed by peanuts and soya beans. Most of the land is irrigated.
==Population==
As of the 2011 Indian census, Shirgaon has a population of 1,950 inhabitants. Males make up 52% of the population and females 48%.
Most of the residents of the village are Hindu artisans. The vegetarian Lingayat sect of Hindusim is represented in the village by the surname Ambi. The traditional business of the Ambis is to drive small boats ("hodi", or "naav" in Marathi) on the river.
Other castes in Shirgaon include the Guravs (i.e. worshippers or pujaries), represented by the surnames Patil and Mahar, Harijan, with the surname Waghmare, and Koshti, with the surnames Kamble and Chougule. The latter included the freedom fighter Shri Bapuasheb Shankar Chougule.
